Tropical Storm Debby heading north toward the Big Bend of Florida from Cuba, and has sustained winds of 40 miles per hour, the National Hurricane Center said in an update early Sunday morning, Aug. 4.
It's expected to be a Category 1 or 2 hurricane when making landfall along Florida's west coast, which is projected for Monday morning, Aug. 5.
- There is a growing risk of tornadoes and waterspouts throughout the Florida peninsula this weekend.
- Rainfall totals could exceed 12 to 18 inches along the Southeast US coast next week, posing a major flooding and public safety risk.
